Description

Kita Island is located at mouth of Redoubt Bay, 9 mi. SW of Sitka, off W coast of Baranof I.; Alex Arch.

History

named in 1809 by the Russian navigator, Ivan Vasiliev the first; published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 19), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Kita," meaning "white Island."
