History
Name published by Lieutenant Commander H. E. Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), in 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 169) as "Calming Islet." In 1809, Ivan Vasiliev the first, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), called this island "Ostrov Utichey," meaning "Escape Island"; possibly it is derived from "Utikhat," meaning "to grow calm."
