Description
Margerie Glacier is located heads on S slope of Mount Root, on Alaska-Canada boundary, trends SE and NE to Tarr Inlet, 1 mi. SE of the terminus of Grand Pacific Glacier and 87 mi. NW of Hoonah, St. Elias Mts.
History
Named by Lawrence Martin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in 1923 for Emmanuel de Margerie, 1862-1953, French geologist, who visited Glacier Bay in 1913. Margerie was a famous geographer and geologist, who published many scientific papers including several on the geology of North America.
