History
Named by Lawrence Martin, U.S. Dept. of State, in 1923 for John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), Secretary of State under President Monroe and President of the United States, who, in the former capacity, negotiated the first treaty between the United States and Russia, establishing what would later become a part of the boundary between the United States and Canada.
