History

Named Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), "M(ys) Ledyanoy" meaning "cape icy," by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 8), presumably because of the stranded drift ice. It has also been called "Cape Forrest" (US@C&GS 1883, Alaska Coast Pilot, p. 201).
