Description

Astrolabe Bay is located between Astrolabe Peninsula and Boussole Head, in Glacier Bay National Monument, 57 mi. WNW of Hoonah, St. Elias Mts. 1.2 miles wide.

History

Named in 1883 by George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for L'Astrolabe, one of the two whips of the French scientific expedition under the command of La Perouse, which explored this region in 1786.
