History
Named "Ostrov Gavanskoy Bolshoy," meaning "big harbor island"; in 1809 by the navigator Ivan Vasiliev the first; Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 19), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
