1.5 mi. SE of Sitka, on W coast of Baranof I.; Alex. Arch. 0.6 mile wide.

History

named in 1879 by the U.S. Navy for the U.S.S. Jamestown, which was stationed in southeastern Alaska, primarily at Sitka, where her officers, including Lieutenant F. M. Symonds and Master G. C. Hanus, were engaged in surveying Sitka Sound. sound were named after officers of the ship. Bay was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 144).
