Description
Rookery Island is located in Duncan Canal, 12 mi. SW of Petersburg, on S coast of Kupreanof I., Alex. Arch.
History
So named in 1933 by R. H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), because the "island is the resting place of thousands of sea birds, known locally as sea pigeons."
