Description
Orient Point is located on E coast of Whale I., 5 mi. SE of Afognak, N of Kodiak I.
History
Descriptive name "M(ys) Vostochnyy" given by Murashev in 1839 or 1840 and published on Russian Hydrographic Dept Chart 1425. Baker (1906, p. 223) published "East Point," the translation of Murashev's name. Beacuse of duplication the name was changed to "Orient Point" in 1909 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS).
