Description
Located in the Alaska Range between the Chigmit Mountains and the Tordrillo Mountains, 77 km (48 mi) west-northwest of Tyonek. 15 miles long.
History
The name is of Dena’ina origin, meaning “tail extends-out lake” (Board on Geographic Names (BGN) case research). Tanaina Indian name reported in 1927 by R. H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS); "obtained from Chilligan, an old Tyonek Indian."
