Description
Hanus Reef is located in Chatham Strait, 6.5 mi. NW of Point Augusta on Chichagof I. and 24 mi. SW of Juneau; Alex. Arch.
History
named in 1880 by Captain L. A. Beardslee, U.S. Navy (USN), for Lieutenant Gustavus Charles Hanus, U.S. Navy (USN), who discovered and surveyed the reef. was published by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 181) as Hanus Rocks.
