Description
Located just outside the boundaries of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, 1.9 km (1.2 mi) north-northeast of Camp Hancock, 3.2 km (2 mi) south of Iron Mountain.
History
Descriptive name for a small, conical hill, with red claystones at its base and a white volcanic tuff at its top. This distinctive landmark is the site of recent geological research which has uncovered the existence of fossil mammals and plants.
