Katlian River is located flows W to Katlian Bay, 8.5 mi. N of Sitka, on W coast of Baranof I., Alex. Arch.
History
Named in 1933 byU.S. Forest Service (USFS)"for the Tlingit Indian chief who in 1799 sold the land upon which the settlement of Sitka was first located." It is said that in 1806 he prevented a second Indian massacre at the present site of Sitka.
