History
This is an 1882 translation by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) of the name given in 1809 by the the Russian navigator Ivan Vasiliev the first reported by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 19), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN) as "os(trov) Ugolnoy."
