Apple Islands is located in Sitka Sound, 3 mi. NW of Sitka, Alex. Arch. 0.5 mile across.
History
Named in Russian "O(strova) Sryednyye," meaning "middle islands," by I. Vasilief, 1809. They were called "Os(trova) Yabloshnyye," meaning "apple island" in 1848 by the Russian Hydrographic Dept. on Chart 1397.
