History
Named in 1879 by the U. S. Navy for Lieutenant Nathaniel R. Usher, U.S. Navy (USN), then on duty at Sitka. The name was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 140).
