Deadman Reach is located in Peril Strait, off NW coast of DUFFIELD Peninsula at N tip of Baranof I., Alex. Arch. 5 miles long.
History
So named "Deadman's Bay" in 1869 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), (U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), 1883, p. 165), "because 150 Aleuts were killed in the vicinity in 1799 from eating poisonous mussels."
