Description
Cozian Reef is located in Peril Strait, N of Duffield Peninsula, 36 mi. N of Sitka, Alex. Arch.
History
Named by U.S. Navy in 1880 for Anton George Cozian, a native of Dalmatia, who was for many years a pilot in the employ of the Russian American Company during the latter part of the 1800's. The reef has also been called Nikolas Rock, because the Russian steamer Nikolas struck it in 1854.
