named by U.S. Navy in 1880 for Nelson MacPherson Ferebee, surgeon, U.S. Navy (USN), who at that time was on duty at Sitka. was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 143).
