Description
Hassler Point is located point of entrance to North Bay, on NE coast of Dall I., Alex. Arch.
History
Named in 1882 by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for the Coast Survey steamer Hassler, which was on a surveying cruise in this vicinity in 1881. The Hassler was in turn named for Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler, first Director of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1807-18, 1832-43.
