Named "Punta de Santa Theresa" by Francisco Antonio Maurelle "probably on that saint's day May 19, 1779" (Wagner, 1937, p. 513). Renamed in 1923 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS); derived from Saint Nicholas Channel.
