Description
Bertoncini Island is located in Jones Is., on Beaufort Sea coast, 4.5 mi. NW of Beechey Point, Arctic Plain. 0.5 mile long.
History
Named by Leffingwell (1919, p. 14, 94) after Captain John Bertoncini, "known as 'Johnny the Painter'." Captain Bertoncini commanded the whaleship Jeannette, on which Leffingwell returned to San Francisco in the fall of 1914.
