Penny River is located flows SW to Norton Sound, 10 mi. W of Nome, Seward Peninsula High.
History
Local name reported in 1899 by Witherspoon (in Schrader and Brooks, 1900, map 2), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Witherspoon designated the upper reach "Quartz Creek." Schrader (1900c, p. 16) labeled the stream "No name r."
