Description
Mendenhall River is located heads in Mendenhall Lake, flows S to Gastineau Channel at Juneau Airport, 8 mi. NW of Juneau, Coast Mts.
History
Local name reported in 1903 by A. C. Spencer and C. W. Wright, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and derived from Mendenhall Glacier. Early miners about 1885 called this stream Glacier River (DeArmond, 1957, p. 32).
