Description
Target Island is located in Mitchell Bay, 6.5 mi. NE of Angoon, on central Admiralty I., Alex. Arch.
History
Named in 1869 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), because "target practice was held here." The name was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 159).
