Description
Lester Island is located southern most of the Beardslee Is., in Glacier Bay, in Glacier Bay National Monument, St. Elias Mts.
History
Named in 1942 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for Rear Admiral Lester Anthony Beardslee, 1836-1903, who as commander of the U. S. S. Jamestown, surveyed various Alaskan coves and harbors in 1879-1880, and who is supposed to have been the first to apply the name "glacier Bay."
