Description
Wood River is located heads in Lake Aleknagik and flows SSE to join Nushagak River to form Nushagak Bay NE of Dillingham; Bristol Bay Low.
History
Local name published by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1890. Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 3) Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), calls the stream "Alyagnagik" and Captain Tebenkof (1852, map 2), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), shows "Aleknagek," both obviously referring to the same Eskimo name.
