Bear Island is located in Chitina River, 10 mi. W of Gibraltar Hill, 28 mi. SE of McCarthy; St. Elias Mts.
History
so named in 1915 by F. H. Moffit, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), "besause a bear was seen on its shore."
