Description
Ptarmigan Drop is located along Richardson Highway, 1 mi. SW of Ptarmigan and 21 mi. NE of Valdez, Chugach Mts.
History
Name published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) (Moffit and Madden, 1914, pl. 1) because of the abrupt drop of the highway to a roadhouse once popular with travelers. The name may also apply to the abrupt drop of Ptarmigan Creek forming a canyon across a ridge.
