Description
Kennon Island is located in mouth of Chichagof Harbor, 0.5 mi. E of Attu. on E coast of Attu I. Aleutian Islands.
History
Named by Lieutenant William Gibson, July 1855, for Lieutenant Beverley Kennon, U.S. Navy (USN). Lieutenant Kennon served with Lieutenant Gibson on the US. schooner Fenimore Cooper during the North Pacific Exploring Expedition, 1854-55, under the command of Captain Caldwalader Ringgold and Captain John Rodgers.
