Description
Located in western North Carolina along the boundary with South Carolina, 55 km (34 mi) south-southwest of Asheville; County Seat: Brevard.
History
Formed in 1861 from Henderson and Jackson Counties; Transylvania is derived from Latin, "trans" meaning "across", and "sylvia" meaning "wood". (NC-T11/p498)
