History
Named for Grove Karl Gilbert (1843-1918) geologist, with United States Geological Survey for 39 years, and best known for papers on the Henry Mountains and Lake Bonneville. Keith A. Howard proposed name for an unnamed feature; the name is reported to be recorded at the register on the summit of this peak.
