History
Named for Mortimer H. Lott (1827-1920) and John S. Lott (?-1910), pioneers in the Ruby Valley. A simultaneous proposal to change the name Squaw Creek to Indian Woman Creek was submitted in March 2002; On 10 March 2005, the USBGN rejected the proposed name in favor of Moltich Spring based on the findings and recommendations of the Madison County Board of Commissioners, the Montana Board on Geographic Names, and the US Forest Service, all of which suggested the commemorative name was more appropriate.
