History

Named for Matt and Veronica Moltich, early pioneers who ranched in the area. A simultaneous proposal to change the name to Indian Woman Spring was submitted in March 2002; On 10 March 2005, the USBGN rejected that proposed name in favor of Moltich Spring based on the findings and recommendations of the Madison County Board of Commissioners, the Montana Board on Geographic Names, and the US Forest Service, all of which suggested the commemorative name was more appropriate.
