In 1640, Bound Brook was the boundary between the Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth Colonies mainly to divide the areas in regard to salt grass rights in the marshes on which the livestock fed. Part of the stream was named for Aaron Pratt, a settler along its course (Board on Geographic Names (BGN) files).
