Description
Heads 1.6 km (1 mi) east of Marriottsville at the junction of South and North Branch Patapsco River, flows southeast to Baltimore and on to the Chesapeake Bay.
History
One theory about the derivation of this name suggests that it is from the Indian term "potaskut" meaning "at the rocky point or corner", possibly referring to the long shoal at the west entrance to the feature. Another theory suggests that the name is from the Delaware word "petapsqui" meaning "back-water, tide-water". (US-T121)
