Fortytwo Gulch is located trends NW to Mastodon Creek, 1.5 mi. NE of Mastodon Dome and 44 mi. SW of Circle, Yukon-Tanana Highlands. 1 mile long.

Named by prospectors and reported in 1936 by Mertie (1938a, p. 206), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
