Description

Waxell Ridge is located extends from head of Steller Glacier E 26 mi. to Bering Glacier, 90 mi. E of Cordova, Chutach Mts., and St. Elias Mts.

History

Named in 1913 by A. G. Maddren, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), for Lieutenant Sven Waxwell (Waxel), sailing master under Vitus Bering on the Alaskan discovery voyage in 1741; upon Bering's death, Waxell succeeded to command.
