Description
Highwater Island is located in Neva Strait, 0.7 mi. S of Saint John Baptist Bay, off Baranof I., 18 mi. NW of Sitka, Alex. Arch.
History
Descriptive name given in 1884 as Highwater Ilet by Commander Coghlan, U.S. Navy (USN), because at low water it is no longer and island or islet, but it is then connected to the east shore. The name was published by US@C&GS in 1891 Coast Pilot.
