History
Russian name meaning "skin boat," given in 1809 by navigator Ivan Vasiliev the first; published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 19), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Boydarkin." This is derived from "baydarka," meaning "chiton," a name used by the Russians for the Aleut skin boats.
