History
Surveyed and named in 1884 by Commander J. B. Coghlan, U.S. Navy (USN), presumably for the steamer Leo, which operated in these waters at that time. The name was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 180).
