History
Named by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for Lieutenant Commander Henry E. Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), who made extensive surveys in this vicinity from 1881 to 1883 while in command of the survey steamer Hassler; published in 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 79) as "Nichols Pass."
