History
Named in 1885 by Lieutenant Commander R. Clover, U.S. Navy (USN), "for Ensign Daniel Preston Menefee," U.S. Navy (USN), a member of his party. This name was published erroneously as "Menafee" in 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 87).
