History
Named in 1966 by Earl H. Beistline, University of Alaska, for Reynold E. (Pete) Isto (1913-1965), civil engineer with the U.S. Geological Survey, resident engineer in Alaska from 1954 to 1961, pioneer in the use of helicopters for Alaskan mapping, and head of field parties mapping the Brooks Range in 1956. The geographic coordinates were adjusted in 2009 to be more accurate than those measured for the 1966 Board Decision because those coordinates were measured from a small scale map.
