Prospectors' name reported in 1900 by E. C. Barnard (in Brooks, 1901, pl. 17), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Reported in 1899 as "Shepard Creek" by D. C. Witherspoon (in Schrader and Brooks, 1900, map 2), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
