History
Name used by local miners; reported in 1906 as "Wassilla Creek" by T. G. Gerdine and R. H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Reportedly named for "Wasilla, a chief of the Knik Indians." The name "Wassila" is apparently derived from the Russian surname, "Vasiliev," meaning "Basil."
