Description
Zaimka Island is located in mouth of Womens Bay, 5 mi. SW of Kodiak, Kodiak I. 0.4 mile long.
History
Local Russian name meaning "meadow" reported by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1940. Called "Os(trov) Utesistoy" meaning "Rocky Island" by Sarivhev (1826, map 16). Baker (1906, p. 187) translated this name as "Cliff Island" which U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) misapplied the to this island in 1910. This error was corrected in 1940 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS). See Cliff Island.
