History
Aleut name published as "Os(trov) Uskoy," or "Uskoy Island," by Lieutenant Sarchev (1826, map 16), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); Father Veniaminov (1846, p. 65) suggested that this name may be from "usgiq," meaning "willow."
