Description

3 mi. E of Afognak, between Afognak and Kodiak I. 0.4 mile long.

History

Name reported in 1900 by Lieutenant Commander J. F. Moser, U.S. Navy (USN), commander of the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) steamer Albatross, who made surveys and investigations in this area from 1897 to 1901. This island was called (Ostrov) Shayak or Shayak Island by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 23), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
